In 2016, our family started our homesteading journey in Central Virginia. Needing to have our poultry and livestock protected from the surrounding wildlife, we set out to find a livestock guardian dog. Finding a breed that would bond with people and livestock proved difficult. After much research, we stumbled across the Armenian Gampr, whose documented temperament included gentleness with children and forming a close bond with family, which was exactly what we were looking for. This led us to the AGCA, and we welcomed our first puppy a few months later. His protective yet loving nature and intuitiveness had us completely enamored, so when it was time to add a teammate, there was no doubt that we would get another Gampr and import our next family member. Our journey continues as we join in the effort of conservation and diversifying the gene pool of this breed’s working lines in North America.
